My family bought me a large plant house for my birthday - bit like a tall cold frame. It was advertised as good quality hard wood etc and I know they sell for about £100. I spent 2 hours at the weekend trying to assemble the thing. The pre-drilled holes don't align properly and the wood isn't cut with precision so I have this travesty of a thing where the top lid doesn't shut properly and the doors at the front swing in/leave a gap. I am really annoyed (and disappointed). Have just e-mailed the manufacturer and seller but wanted to let off some steam. Has anyone else had a problem with these?

No - but it seems a bit like an Ikea moment.

Sympathies.

You have my deepest sympathy Haggis; talk nicely to them but if they don't sort it out for you straight away, give them hell!

Hurray - have just received an e-mail from the supplier saying that the manufacturers agree that there was a problem and they are going to send me a new plant house fully assembled! I thought the best I could hope for was an excuse and a £5 voucher for seeds or something so I am over the moon. Great customer service and they now have a loyal customer.

One very happy Haggis :D

Well good for them! Who's the upplier/manufacturer? I think they deserve a bit of publicity for that kind of customer service (not that it should have been necessary, but these things do happen).

My little plastic greenhouse I bought has just collapsed.

I've lost all the 9 lots of brassicas, 6 lots of tomatoes, 2 lots of celery, 80 sweetcorn plants, 3 cucumbers, 4 chillis, 4 sweet peppers, 8 lots of lupins, 8 lots of delphinium. None of the pots are re-usable and neither is the compost as all the seeds are mixed up together. I've now got to go and put what's left up to the lottie and hope that they survive up there.

I've been awake sine 2am, am in pain and very very tired.

I'm really, really, really mad now. This calls for immediate emergency chocolate fresh cream muffin with a side order of Green and Blacks Organics 80% chocolate on the side.

Lizzie is not a very happy bunny

Ok, rant over. Going to go and sulk now. This little misfortune has probably cost me about £40 for the greenhouse, soil, pots, seeds etc.
Lots of love

Oh Lizzie, that's just awful. I knocked a shelf today and landed myself on the head with a tray of cabbages and that upset me, so what you're going through I don't know. Is nothing rescuable?

I am pleased about one thing, in all the list of comforts listed, cigarettes didn't feature! Good girl.

I could bloody murder one at the mo. I could actually go and mug someone for a cigarette.

Nothing is rescuable because the shelves collapsed inwards so all the compost and the seeds are mixed up together. There's no point in trying to go through it all. Plus, I gave them a water so the compost was to damp to sieve.

I'm so ******* angry.

Chantal I now realise thats why if your not Green your cabbage like

I just hate it when things go wrong, I have just found a whole tray (40 pots) of sweetcorn plants nipped of at the base by a mouse so he could scoff the sprouted seed. Ha, the traps out loaded with peanut butter and he had better keep away or he will be a little treat for Stan the cat.

Chin up Lizzie can we help out.
Kindest regards Piglet

Thanks Piglet.

I'll just have to re-sow everything.

Now that i'm calming down a bit, it's not too bad. I mean, it's early in the season, nothing was that big it can't be re-sowed. Plus, the ground here is still too cold for any planting out yet so it's not a complete disaster really.

Just ******* annoying. We've got really strong winds here and it looks like it's caught on the bit that wasn't fastened properly and took off with it.

Still, **** happens.

Thanks anyway Gorgeous

Lizzie - I've got some seedlings I could put in a box for you. If you PM me I'll post them after the Bank Holiday so they don't suffer any delay.

Bloody hell Lizzie, 2006 is not shaping up as your best year yet. What with your wrist being in plaster, and the other 'mishaps' you mention.

What you have to do is 'pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again'. I know its not easy, but how else are you going to get the delicious veggies, etc?

There are day's when you wonder if it is all worthwhile. YES IT IS!!! You know it is. They never said life would be easy, but it can be very enjoyable.

Sorry to hear about your greenhouse - how awful. It's the anticipation of seeing the plants come on and then being back to square one that is annoying. poor you - still as you say the weather is so rotten just now anything ready for planting out is in for a cold wet start.

Chantal - the supplier of the plant house was Kings Seeds and the manufacturer Haxnicks. Kings were brilliant and I had 2 replies to my e-mail by lunchtime of the next working day. They also phoned the manufacturer to see what they were going to do about it. Well done Kings.

Lizzie,
Nothing at all to do with gardening, but your mishap brought back a horrible memory of something that happened to me on my second night as a bank nurse at a local nursing home. I had to get all the medication ready for giving out in the morning, putting everyones tablets into pots with name labels (totally against the then UKCC regulations, but I did it anyway, against my better judgement.)
Anyway, there they all were, neatly lined up on 2 trays which I then placed onto a table next to the medicine cabinet. Guess what happened next.
Leg dropped off table.
I was nearly sick.
No way of sorting that lot out!
Rang the home manager who was delighted to hear from me at 4am. Still don't know why I wasn't sacked!
