Now what a first class idea, Allan, i know were i can get my hands on some baggy old bloomers that will make ideal sails. :shock: :)

And it will still keep my carbon footprint pretty low. :wink:

Watched an odd amateurish programme about building a Roman villa the other night and was surprised to hear that the Romans didn't have wheelbarrows. When the prat of an archaeologist in charge banned the builders from using them (in the interests of authenticity) I would have asked for a team of slaves but the builders just built a useless cart.

Alan, now.that's what I'd been thinkimg would suit OH, just update it with a mountain bike wheel and tyre. :D

Where I grew up, the normal peasant transport was a small 4-wheeled cart, like a miniature hay wagon. You could have it pulled by goats but usually we just did it ourselves. And as youngsters we would sit in it, hold the shaft between our legs for steering and whizz down the roads - not many cars about during the war and just post-war. Everything was transported in those carts: wood, coal, potatoes, washing (to take to the public hot mangle) ........ even babies instead of in prams.

Wheelbarrows are jolly side easier to manouvre than 4-wheeled carts and I do love all the above pictures!

And with the current price of petrol I can see them making a return to fashion.
I'd love to see peoples's faces if I wheeled one down our local shopping parade.
So much cheaper than a Silver Cross pram!
