Thousands of Larch trees are now being felled near to me on the Quantocks due to the spread of this disease from America, it has spread up from Cornwall and is causing great concern. It is suspected it was carried to the UK by an imported plant.

It must be heartbreaking to see so much greenery disappear. I read that there are fears it may soon spread to the Forest of Dean. That would be a massive natural disaster. Our bit of Northwest Wales (Eifionydd) is noted for its tree cover (predominantly sessile oaks) and if the trees were to go the spirit of the area would die with them.

Brings back sad memories of "Dutch Elm Disease" This part of Essex was noted for its Elms.

I couldn't work out from the article (my failing I fear, rather than the article), can this effect all trees, or only larches - or do they spread it quicker than others?
