Hi Alan,
Another incident concerning the same bird species only in Louisiana this time. As usual there are all sorts of theories around but in Louisiana they are conducting a proper autopsy and the results should be available soon.
Years back I found over 500 Black Headed Gulls dead at a reservoir and an autopsy revealed that they had died from food poisoning. The poisoning had been caused by the gulls eating food that had been caught between two layers of ice and when the top layer had melted the food had become infected in some way.
Don't ask 'cos I don't know!
JB.

HI there,

Could it be because of pollution or for some reason causing the air to kill the birds?
Just a thought.

According to reports this morning, there's been another incidence of hundreds of dead birds in the USA and also around 100,000 dead fish near the first lot of dead birds. The autopsy on the first batch of birds has shown they've died from blod clots caused by internal injuries. Speculation that this could have been because of strong wind etc, but no one seems to really know.

There's bound to be a simple explanation!
