You are all SO cynical.

We need the Olympics to keep the unthinking public amused... just like the World Cup (where people actually bet that England would win).

In Roman times the mob were kept happy by "bread and circuses".. Read "benefits and TV sport" for the modern equivalent...

I've nothing against sport and leisure facilities but wouldn't it be great if the government or local councils were as concerned at facilitating our leisure pursuit (gardening) in the same way by a bit of spending on allotment sites.

No matter who is in power, the government always needs badgering Gallotments, before anything comes to fruition, the best time to do it is before an election . :wink:

Don't give up Gallotments it took 10 years of badgering to get one change
here locally, we now have a new mental health emergency admissions unit, prior to that patients were held in a police cell for their own safety, (even if a crime had not been committed) while a bed was found. Eastbourne had the same problem and also benefitted. They actually sent me a letter to inform me when the money finally came through. :)
