Looking at the stats though, they may have more members than us but their forum has been going since around 21 September whereas ours was relaunched on 21 November and we're catching up fast. Also we've got more postings than them; some of them total drivel it has to be said, but still more.

I've just had a look at their forum and Piglet is listed as a SPROUTER! Who do you think you're kidding Piggers?

Chantal,
you are in the habit of pointing out to posters that they didnt read a previous post properly so please re read mine. In an earlier post I said I was a member of both forums. I also said that I find that this forum is the better format, as per Tiggers views and is more friendly. No where did I say that I didnt use it so no I am not kidding anybody.
For the record, quite a few of the KG site regulars, including moderators are also members and regular posters there, but then, it is a free country after all and as far as I can see, being a member here doesnt preclude you from any other sites.
Some of them have even taken to copying verbatim items posted on this site, to that one. Johnboys article on Horseradish for example which is really not on and something I totally disagree with..

You haven't mentioned kitchen gardens e-list on Yahoo which precedes the KG magazine itself by a several years and has its own character and loyal followers. Last time I checked it had about 500 signed subscribers. It is not subject to the same degree with irrelevent chat just for the sake of it which I'm sorry to say occurs here but there is an effort to channel it to the teaparty etc.
O very much regret that I missed a U.S. publication called "The Kitchen Garden", there was good material in that one. I only found it when it had already ceased publication. Much of that year's contents was on the website.
It is a strange coincidence that there are many seedsmen wo I discovered over the years and within a maximum of 3 years they had folded, it seemed I gave them the death touch. Carters of Rayne's Park was the last and probably best known, Suttons bought out the rights but they in turn have been taken over at least once.

I must admit I prefer the sytle and content here compared to the other site being talked about.
But there is good information on both if you have time to search for it.
There is another kitchen garden/allotment forum I also post on and that has over 3,500 members with an average of 300 per day visiting. Again lots of good content but it takes time to follow it all.
As far as here goes, it is early days and this site has a great potential to become an excellent resource for kitchen gardeners.
I have posted on the other site but only dip in and out about once a week as I find the forum harder to use and slower.
As far as the two magazines are concerned one stands head and shoulders above the other IMHO.

Your bang on Jerry with this sites potential for becoming an excellent resource especially with its ease of use, plus new members are joining nearly everyday.
One thing that I find funny is the transfer of threads from this site to the other. For example the thread that was on here about broad bean hybrids, migrated across as have others?
Are there any plans for an extra one or two categories here, one thing I find good about the other site is that it has specific categories, such as undercover for growing well "undercover".
The only real gripe about the magazine is that its going into Delia land and printing recipies. If this is the only way of retaining the extra pages then fine but I would prefer them to be about fruit and veg, Perhaps a wider net of writers as well.

Piglet, I wasn't arguing about you posting or not posting on the other site, I can see that you do and don't have an issue with that. It's the term SPROUTER that cracked me up; it's just not something that I associate with you, although SEEDLING would suit you even less! I seem to recall we were all seedlings or acorns, something like that on this forum for about 2 days back in November but then KG saw sense.

Yes, I post similar threads on different forums when I am looking for information. Gardeners are notorius for differing views and I want to gather as much info as possible so I can take that on board to form my own view.
Interesting you should mention other boards here, I have asked if it is possible but the move to the new servers was more important.
But there is also an argument that too many boards may make it confusing to new members to decide where to post.

That's all right Piglet, of course I'll forgive you for being a grumpy guts in the middle of the night. Didn't take offence anyway, just assumed you'd misunderstood.
What is really scary is that if we had the same system, we'd be Gardening Gurus, just because we talk a lot - it would be nothing to do with gardening knowledge, just verbal diarrhoea!

Well its lucky we don't all like the same thing cos I prefer the other forum.
I thought it was really funny you wouldn't mention the name of the other magazine at first. I can't see what the problem is with copying a post (especially if a link is included to the original source)? Do you have exclusive information then?

It's fine to copy postings if you were the original author or if you have permission to copy it. Otherwise, as you can see on the GYO forum, it can be a problem for some people, so it's not considered to be good practice.

To answer our "guest", who seems ashamed of his/her choice.
I was being a/. polite, b/. seem to remember a custom/habit/rule not to mention other publications on this website, or was that just on the old version of the forum?

Ahhh PW that would be telling - its why I agree with you that postings should only be done by registered posters!
