I thought I would warn our readers, had a email from the taxman saying I had £988 tax rebate due, just click on their link. Out of curiosity I did, low and behold it required me to fill in my bank details. Have forwarded it on to the security section of the Inland Revenue. Just thought I would put our readers to be on there guard.

Good grief! It hasn't taken long, for some low life to jump on that particular bandwagon has it? I only hope no-one falls for it.
Thanks for the warning Shallot Man.
Cheers.

The safest way to deal with these sorts of emails is treat them all as scams.
An easy check is to hover the mouse pointer over the 'click here' link and your browser will show where you will go if you do click. Invariably it is to some weird site.
If it looks genuine my advice would still be never to reply to them but to contact your bank/building society directly. The genuine ones I occasionally get always have something in them such as part of my postcode or account number but they NEVER ask for personal information.

The scammers also use the telephone. I often have long conversation will a very nice girl Bombay about the weather there! As soon as she mentions some share deal that she knows about I have to make a polite excuse and finish the call. Why does she always ring at meal times?

Over the years I have had warning Emails from just about every bank imaginable but the bank I actually use.
There are so many con-merchants on the net I act as John, quite rightly, says, treat them all as bogus.
I would also mention the amount of times I have won a fortune and to claim my fabulous wealth phone such and such number.
I now have a new Email address and strangely I haven't won anything for months nor have any banks contacted me. How strange!
JB.
