Critique of KG elsewhere

"When at the news agents I was looking at other mags just to see what was on their offers and is it just my imagination but the Kitchen Garden mag looking more and more like ??? every month?"

with a reply saying

" i noticed that too!! I have been a ??? subscriber since it started and love it, my neighbour who has an alloment plot next to me buys kitchen garden and ??? and we have been comparing them. kitchen garden is a different kind of magazine and seems to be aimed at slightly different people a nice publication that i think has been around longer and so should do their own thing! Whats the point in having magazines that are the same how boring. "

Any comments anyone?

We bought a copy of ??? just to see, shan't bother again. It has the touch of enthusiastic amateurism.

I bought several copies when it first came out and thought it had too many glossy photos and not enough written content. I've flicked through later editions in the newsagent but have never been tempted. KG is more than enough for me.

There was a comment on the forum recently about preferring growing information rather than a full page of making pizza etc. I would agree if the magazine was still the same number of pages as previously. However, I can see no problem in having some of the EXTRA pages devoted to cooking the stuff that we lovingly produce. I think the new format is great.

We were lured by mentioned new comer mag last year and subscribed. After about 4 months we have cancelled as like others have mentioned far to thin on actual info and tons of arty-farty photos! I really gave up on it when it had two pages on cooking items which weren't in season and an article about how to grow your own truffles. Purely for dreamers and those who still get most of their veg from the supermarket. However, I must admit we did take full advantage of their freeby offers of a blueberry bush and 3 canes of golden rasperry. So not a total loss.

I buy both - but then I buy most of the available gardening and cookery magazines 'cos I'm addicted to them. I much prefer KG to any other. It's a pity Garden Life has gone because that was much better than GYO.

I also use the GYO website and have recently become a Forum member, but I don't like the format or the software they use and I think the KG Forum is much better and easier to use.

Most importantly - the enthusiasm of our posters - members or otherwise - is what I like most.

I concur Tigger, our format is much betterthan GYO and I feel, much more friendly.
