Passing grocer the other day, he was throwing out the trays that mushrooms come in. I saved them from the tip. As they are stack-able, ideal for chitting potato's, using mine at the moment for storing my shallot sets in for next year.

Good thinking Shallot man ! Another fav freebie of mine is the deep polystyrene boxes that winter veg come in with a few holes punched in the bottom they make superb frostproof containers to plant in and when they eventually break up the pieces make light work of drainage for the bottom of big pots, less to lift than stones. I always save the cardboard rolls from loo rolls too, they make free root trainers and the roots grow through the card when planted so no disturbance.
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.

I do the same as you, NB. And I have also got a large number of egg trays for chitting spuds; they came in 30's and the school gave me the trays instead of chucking them.
