Sorry to lower the tone, but I picked 2 cucumbers from the greenhouse yesterday to give to guests. One was straight and the other curved. I think there is some evidence that straight cucumbers are better in one way or another and I remembered the wonderful line from [i]Chelmsford 123[i] spoken by the fanatical Roman roadbuilder:

Straight is great;
curvy is purvy.

Hi Mike, on mine i notice that while the plant is in its prime they prodice beautiful straight ones towards the end of the plants lifetime in decline more curly purvy ones. The courgettes are also at the end of production and slowing down, and sure enough today I picked the first purvy one. :roll:

Dear All,
I have actually stayed at Ingleborough hall, the gardens were memorable even to a nine year old (many moons ago). I also seem to remember that Geoffrey Smith did a gardening programme from there back in the early eighties. A passion for plants I think.
The trip left me with a lifelong passion for Kendal mint cake (sadly the state of my teeth bears full testament to this....)
Regards Sally Wright.

A seed sown today ,will be a meal tomorrow.

Do it well that you may not do it twice.
