Yesterday contractors were cutting the Wheat alongside my house and the Combine Driver stopped and rushed in to tell me that a Rabbit was seen running like hell and had leapt over the anti Rabbit fence into my vegetable garden!
Hot foot down the plot, at my usual one mile a day pace, and there scared out of it's wits was the b-----y Rabbit. It disappeared into my Runner Beans where it immediately proceeded to dig a hole and I then grabbed the first cat that I could catch (there are many here) put it over the wire fence into the vegetable garden fortunately it heard the Rabbit digging and went to investigate. The Rabbit realized it was about to be attacked by the cat and there was a chase and to my amazement the Rabbit leapt over the fence back into the field. It not only got over a three foot fence it cleared it with a good foot to spare!
No real damage done but whilst digging the Rabbit had punctured one of the irrigation tubes which took about 5 minutes to repair and that was all.
I have never seen a Cat scratch its head before but it could not understand where the Rabbit had gone and spent the next hour looking for it.
That is my mitigating excuse for not being on time with Nature Babe's birthday greeting!

Been thanked: 1 time

We have "Colin Jackson" rabbit at our plots who has been seen to run the length of the allotments hurdling every fence he comes across. Many of these fences are 3ft or higher and as you say, clears them easily.

Witnesses cannot believe what they are seeing and those being told simply refuse to believe what they are being told!

A new breed of super bunny

we one had a full grown bullock that got the wrong side of an electric fence, when he decided it was time to rejoin his mates he walked upto the elecric fence then simply jumped straight over from a standing start..wouldnt have beleived it possible if i hadnt seen it happen.

We used to get Hares leaping the anti Rabbit fence and they really can hurdle and carry on running at the same speed when they land. I see many Hares during the year but haven't had one on the plot for some time now.
I do not expect to get a repeat performance from the Rabbit it was only because it had a combine harvester bearing down on it and next years crop is potatoes.

Johnboy, did the rabbit wear its underpants over its trousers, and was it wearing a red cloak ?

Our local farmer just harvested his wheat too, he had beans in there first.
I bet they are rubbing theit hands with glee now wheat prices have risen steeply.
