Hi John, welcome, fancy your wife preferring tasteless tesco toms !
I am busy saving seed from my own heritage tomatoes a lovely tasty crop, I collected from the best plants, laid them on the kitchen table, went out again to construct a new bed for next years tomatoes, layered with home grown compost and mulched ready for winter, then came back indoors to find my 92 yr old mother munching happily tomatoes that were chosen for my next years seed grrrrrrr !

It happens to us all, alas. I once stored a pot of rare Lazy Housewife Bean seeds (the original heirloom, its pod curved like scimitar) in a Kilner jar with the mandatory sachet of silica gel. No prizes for guessing that it turned up in my wife's casserole.

But I got my own back. I'd frozen some comfrey tea in a plastic milk bottle. (It keeps its potency, when frozen, for several years.) I'd put it in the garage freezer where we keep soups and stocks. Regrettably, I had not labelled it.

Guess where it ended up? In my wife's casserole.

This is a True Story. My wife was ill for days. (So was I.)

Alas, no. I became so dehydrated that I had to take up residence in my local pub.

BTW: did you know that an independent pub will often accept organic tomatoes in exchange for free beer? 'Organic Tomato Soup from locally grown organic tomatoes' always goes down well. (So does free beer .)

Now I content myself with growing a few choice varieties in YeoPods around the patio. Just for their seed. (Ho, what is a YeoPod, I hear you ask? If you're interested, I'll tell you.)

B****y h**ll, I didn't realise that I'd said that out loud - these meno-moments are getting worse by the day!
