cutting the tops off?

i have grown some tomatoes, chilli pepppers and sweet peppers in pots on my windowsills (hoping to get a greenhouse on the allotment for next year) the tomatoes and chilli peppers are quite tall, should i have cut the tops off? if so at what hight? thanks

chilli plants - pick ripe chilli's then check for any disease, only save healthy plants. Prune back each plant so you only leave about 10-15cm of the main stem. then repot with fresh compost and bring into a frost free light place.
they are perennial, in spring new growth will appear on strong roots, giving them a head start to crop earlier.
Tomatoes, take out the tips once you have 4 or five trusses of fruit.
