Hi
I was hoping on thickly sowing salad head seeds such as lollo, baby gem, oak leaf and just any that i have handy. Will they grow at a similair rate to cut for a mixed leaf salad (baby leaf style)? Or will i have all the greens much bigger than the reds?
Thanks

Hi Geacher,
Certainly the Lollo and Oak Leaf varieties, which are loose leaf lettuces, will grow at a very similar rate and will provide baby leaf salad but not too sure about the Little Gem. Cos lettuces are not really suitable for loose leaf picking but when small would not probably survive after the fist cut.
Little Gem although fairly fast growing it would be the odd one out for small leaf production.
I suppose the only way out to find out is to sow them and find out.
JB.
