Something is eating holes in my cabbages and the only thing I can find in or on them is Earwigs do they normally attack cabbages and how do I get rid of them. Better still how do I prevent them.

Hi Ken, put a plank of wet / damp wood or a sheet of wet cardboard down near your plants, then you can collect them up from underneath the wood, slugs and snails will migrate there for collection too, I check mine early morning.
My guess is its so dry they will find any damp port in a storm, lol

Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.

Ken, are you sure it's not cabbage white caterpillars which are eating your cabbages? They often hide themselves away in he heart or in the curds (of cauliflowers or calabrese), but venture out to nibble your leaves. I would give the plants a good search for caterpillars.
If it is earwigs, which I doubt, you could also hang a plant pot stuffed with straw upside down on a stick next to the cabbage plants and examine the straw every day. The earwigs might be in there and you can then get rid of them.
