Water damage?

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

I noticed today that some of our beetroot leaves and French bean leaves have large dry, papery patches on them, in fact some of the beetroot leaves have turned completely dry and brown. I might have splashed water on them when watering. Could that be the reason? Or is it the hot sun (they are both open to the sun most of the day)?

Hi Monika,
I have had exactly the same problem with the bottom leaves of my runner beans.
Just after they had been planted out we had a very cold night 3.5C accompanied by a constant wind the following day and it was after that the the trouble began so I suspect that it was a combination of both things. I have simply cut off all the damaged leaves and all of those that are appearing now seem perfectly alright.
JB.

Thanks, Johnboy. I'll keep on eye on them and see how they progress. As they all have healthy leaves as well as the affected ones, hopefully they will continue to grow.
