Globe artichokes - advice please
Moderators: KG Steve, Chantal, Tigger, peter
I received some mail order globe artichoke plants today - nice, healthy plants, with 3 or 4 leaves. Shall I plant them out, or is it still a bit chilly for them (my allotment is in Surrey)? Would they be better potted up and left in the cold greenhouse for another couple of weeks?

They should be ok to plant out, but if you're worried about cold you could:
- Start them in pots in a greenhouse for the next week or so, or
- Plant them in situ and protect with fleece
Once in place & established, Globe Artichokes will overwinter (fleece often required) so planting in May oughtn't to be a major issue.
I couldn't see your location - it will help people to know where in the country you are for questions like this.
