I have a number of onions which I left in over winter because they hadn't really developed last summer, and they're now showing quite long green shoots. Will the bulbs actually develop & fill out or should I pull them up? Am not an onion expert so unsure whether onions can actually overwinter and the bulbs continue swelling in the Spring.

If they were from seed last year they might act like sets and grow on but if they were sets I would expect them to flower quite early. If you have space leave them but I wouldn't rely on them.

Dear Primrose, in theory i think they will go to seed as soon as it warms up, but in practice, Mother nature can be a funny old girl, and with this hard Winter who knows.
Don't suppose that has really helped, has it!
