Streetview seemed to be the hot topic on our local radio this morning...I checked out the photos for home here and they are not half as clear as those for M B.
Not totally convinced that I like the idea...but I will no doubt find it genuinely very useful as I am a total chicken at travelling to places unknown...I'm much better if I can have had a recce of the area and can visualise a destination...and I have already used the previous Google map for that purpose.
We've were quite shocked to find how clear a profile existed of our house. Google's passing camera had actually caught me bending down working in the garden wearing my grubby gardening shorts. My face was blanked out but my bum wasn't !!
Primrose same here, one Sunday last year my daughter asked when she came could she use my computer after a while she called me to look at the screen and there I was bending over pots in the front garden very clear, earlier in the week her boss in the lunch hour asked her for an address she gave mine and was surprised to see her mom on the screen. It is quite worrying the amount of detail you can see if you zoom into some of these photos. It's an ideal tool for burglars and other fraudsters. You could even see the name of our burglar alarm providers on the alarm case, and the location of our security lighting. We've applied to have our house deleted. They'll be wanting to come and photograph us in our bathrooms next.

But if you think of it from the burglars perspective...If they can see you have an alarm and lighting - they'd be more likely to visit your neighbours who don't have any security. But, I doubt many burglars sit in front of google maps looking for potential targets.
Most burglars are opportunists - if they see the lights are out and all is quiet they'll take a chance.
I have only just been playing with the maps. I am not sure bI like the idea as privacy is in my opinion compremised. very clever how you have put the link in though I would like to be that good myself. why milton kenes? I had a look at our site and it wasn#t as good as that one.
Having the details of your burglar alarm provider on public view to the world can be a double edged sword. Yes, I agree an opportunist passing potential burglar will give you house a miss if they see it alarmed but I'm afraid there are too many other scammers of different sorts these days. It's all too easy for a "White Van" man to turn up on your doorstep claiming to be the service engineer for XYZ Security company who has come to give your burglar alarm its annual service. And if you're a gullible person you let them in, they wander all round your house claiming to check your burglar alarm wiring, and after they've gone, all your jewellery and the money from your handbag has gone missing.
I can't find street view for my address, just an aerial view which makes my garden look very neat and tidy - can't think when it was taken - but it must have looked like that in the last year or two. No close ups of me bending down thank goodness.
