The thing that i always find quite handy is, if know one else knows the name you can always make one up, not that i've ever done that of course. :) :wink:

At 6.30am this morning, there was the slightest dawn chorus to be heard, at least the birds are with us, even if the weather is not.

The forecast looks quite grim for the next five days.

Glad your walk went well Clive. Don't know if it is the same, but there was a snowdrop at Hodsock I hadn't seen before with a fatter, pointed, bright green leaf - it was called Russian snowdrop, but I can't remember the latin name. Does that sound like the one you mention?

Hello Plumpudding,

"Ours" has wide round topped bright glossy green leaves.....suggestions of ikariae or woronowii.??...perhaps others ?....

They were a gift to my original employer at the gardens....He farms out in the Fens and has an area where Snowdrops are farmed, lifted and split for sale to a Dutch bulb company...the owner of which arrived one day with said green leaved specimen....as much as we know..

A job for some quiet research one day....

We ventured into Lancashire, Geoff and Catherine country, this morning (very daring, from Yorkshire!) and experienced some gorgeous landscapes of thick fog, interspersed with clear sunny patches, thick haw frost and a slight smattering of snow - and the first lambs of the year! it all looked quite magical though it was jolly raw and cold.

Slight covering of mixed snow, sleet and hail here this morning, all transformed to the purest of ice :(

I heard a report that spring will be four weeks late this year - a bit like my outside gardening :(

I'm afraid i have no funny picture, :) but we do have about 2" of snow now and it's still coming down heavy.

Think i might leave the Shallot planting for today. :)

Only a very light dusting here in fact.....

Reports via local radio seems to suggest there may be more more inland..

How are the Broad Beans Old H'....?? Mine are in the seed bag in the shed roof..

Morning Clive, regarding my broad beans, i can just see the stirrings of growth in the 60 pots on the greenhouse shelf. :)
