I am in the process of following the raised planter section like the one in the mag although mine will be 12ft X 5ft & sloping from 9" to 13" is there an easy way to work out how much soil I will need the advert I have seen in my local rag gives a price per ton... I am hoping that one will be enough, any ideas please...

Hi Sparhawkiw,
You are right. I work it out at 47 cubic Feet and 27cu ft equals 1 cu yard.
The weight of soil depends on the density of the soil but what I can say to give you an idea is that 1 cu yard of concreting ballast weighs 1.25 tons and soil should weigh less, if this is of any help to you. This means that you will have soil to spare with the 2 tons you mention.
You must also allow for settlement.
JB.
