its allways worth typing the name of the pill into google and see what side effects and contra indications there are... it may even shed some light on what else this particular drug has been used for.

having said that if the root cause is something in the back , that needs diagnosing and sorting... pain killers and anti depressants aint going to cure it

Thanks again everyone for all your suggestions. I have decided to take a second opinion. I tried to speak to the practice nurse on Friday but she had already left. Tomorrow I am going to ring the surgery and speak to someone and make an appointment with the lady doctor. If I cant do that then I am going to change doctors as I am really not happy with what has happened.

I have spoken to several friends and relatives and they have all burst out laughing at the doctor's diagnosis.

None of them think I am depressed.

12 years ago I suffered from depression following bullying at work. How I feel now is nothing like how I felt then. My OH and I have discussed it at length this weekend and he is firmly of the opinion that the doctor is completely off the mark and he is also cross that I now have depression on my health records.

I am glad I put this post on the website because I feel that I have had such support for all of you that I feel much more positive about what I am going to do. Thank you very much.

I googled the tablets as soon as I came home and I was horrified what the side effects and contra indications are. I have really no intention of taking these tablets. It seemed to be for people with major depression.

My back, this week has settled down for the time being, so I am going to be very careful next week and make sure I dont agravate it with what I am doing.

Thank you OH. I have today spoken to the practice nurse at the surgery who has made me an appointment with the lady doctor next Monday to have a second opinion. I will wait and see what happens then.

Thank you OH. I have had my appointment with the said Doctor who sat and discussed everything with me and gave me full eye contact and showed an interest. We discussed everything and have decided that I need some blood tests to check all the usual things, she also checked my hips and lower back to make sure that I had no trapped nerves. My back has settled down since last week. I felt so much better that I had been seen properly and not passed some blessed anti-depressants. (Now I just have to get rid of my head cold that started yesterday) Bloot test on the 30th results early January. Fasting blood test for cholesterole mine at the moment is 8.3. Over Christmas I will have to behave myself, although luckily I dont have a sweet tooth.

Dear Catherine, doesn't it make a difference when the Doctor actually listens to what you are saying. And i too hope everything else goes well for you.

Thank you Mac Mac and OH, yes it does make a difference and this lady doctor only works part time and even though the information screen above the door shows that each appointment only lasts 10 minutes, if you need more she does not usher you out. She is very popular and it is always difficult to get an appointment.
