My wife went to work last Tuesday and left her mobile phone behind. So she phoned me from work [a number I don’t know] to ask me to find it and bring it to her at lunchtime.

I found the mobile and, to reassure her that it wasn’t lost, decided to phone her. It was 10 o'clock and I knew she didn't start till 10.30. So I rang her up, on her mobile, and all I got was the answerphone message. So I went into Victor Meldrew mode cussing at her [to myself] for not keeping the phone switched on while she was free.

Then it dawned on me .....

I did that once with a phone I found on a bus. Picked
a number at random from their phone book to see if I
could trace it to save them going miles to the bus depot.
The lovely lady said don't worry I will contact them and let
them know and promptly rang me again on the found phone!
Had a good laugh about it and phone did find it's owner quite
near where I was.

I was out recently and needed to ring home to speak to the OH.

Tried once and got no reply - strange, he wasn't supposed to be going anywhere!

Tried again five minutes later, and this time my dad answered. I was really confused.

Then the penny dropped. I'd been dialling the number that used to be 'home' - thirty years ago!

Heaven help me when I'm really old!

I remember a workmate who had just got his first mobile, receiving a call on a Saturday morning (we didn't usually work at weekends) and asking the caller how they knew to ring him at work.

I hadn't had my mobile long. I had a puncture on the M! and rang the AA who offeed to text me to keep me updated.

As I stood on the grass banking the phone peeped to signal a message but the unfortunate things was I didn't know how to get to it! And I worked with technology.

And do you ever have a problem when someone asks for your mobile number. I can never remember so I wrote it out and stuck it on the back of my mobile - it's really handy.

Now that reminds me. I can't remember mine either - but I HAVE learnt how to put people's numbers into the phone. Perhaps I'll put mine in so that I can remember it when I have the phone with me. Otherwise I'll just look it up in my diary, where I've got everyone else's number. Then I'll phone myself up and talk to myself. Is that a bedfordshire boy thing to do, OH?

A bird - I'm not sure what sort - started imitating my mobile phone when I was at the allotment.
You wouldn't believe how many times I've raced from one end to the other to answer my phone, just to find that some damned bird was having a joke at my expense!

Probably a starling around us they mimic car alarms and basically any sort of sound.

I find it very reassuring to read these posts! It is wonderful to learn that I am not the only one to have problems with technology.
I got a mobile phone, ten years ago, when my son went into the RAF. He had one already and it was a cheap and easily accessible way of maintaining contact, via text messages and the voicemail service. It has been invaluable in this respect.

After all this time, I am quite at home with mobiles, though when I get a new one, it takes me ages to get the hang of it, after much poring over the instruction manual and curses.(when I manage to delete something I wanted to keep ) I always go for the same make of phone, as the menu is fairly simple and I understand the way it works! Also, I have to take into account the ringer volume, due to being a bit hard of hearing. This causes much hilarity in the shop, as it involves faffing around putting the damn thing in my bag to see if I can hear it! If I have my jacket on, and the phone in my pocket, it's fine because I have the vibrate alert on too, but in the depths of my bag?? Forget it!!

Most phones have far more things on them than I need....some do everything except the washing up....I like to make and receive calls and text messages and I love the camera too. Everything else is way beyond me!

I hope it doesn't take me as long to get the hang of using a computer...after ten months, there is still so much I don't know or understand!!
