I first mentioned this in the chat about"whats happened...." but I think it must have got lost in the discussion (and I put it in the wrong place) In the paper yesterday it told of Dix's Field allotment in Brixham where thieves have taken hundreds of pounds worth of produce clearly to sell.
Some chap noticed a stranger but didn't folow it up.Is this what more of us can look forward to ?

so sorry macmac. Our allotments have been hit for the tools and equipment, but not for the produce (touch wood). that's horrible.

Like you Malk our site gets the usual shed break-ins and bits of produce taken,sadly often by other plotholders.But these poor folk in Brixham must feel so disheartened I mean we fight slugs,whitefly.caterpillers and blight and then just when they've got something to harvest some low life pinches it

Dear macmac, it's hard to imagine what you would think if you lost most of your crops. Very sad times indeed, and also it will be hard for the plot holders to drum up any enthusiasum for next year.

Sorry to hear about the thefts. I know what it feels like as we had our last late and best peas stolen at the beginning of September and the left the empty shells at the side of the plants. Not found out if anyone else lost anything. We have picked our New England pumpkins yesterday even though they are not yet ripe as they will be pinched with Halloween coming up.

As a result of reading your post about picking pumpkins so they don't get pinched, ours are now safely ripening in the conservatory. Thank you Catherine.

You're welcome Pongeroon. I have put mine in our sitting room which we dont use in winter, it is quite cool in there so I am hoping they will ripen. I was quite pleased with them this year as they all weigh in around 1.5 to 2.5 kg. The ripe ones, 3 of them feel quite light so I am assuming that the under ripe ones will go lighter as they ripen
