My friend was driving carefully along a country lane, with myself as passenger, when all of a sudden we had to slam on thre brakes as a buzzard shot backwards out of the bushes, at windscreen height, madly flapping its wings and not even noticing the car. It narrowly missed hitting the windscreen by executing a very clumsy backwards sliding flight up and over the car, still facing backwards and now upside down as well. I thought these birds were supposed to be graceful? :?

Perhaps it was pursuing some prey and lost it at the last moment and was probably so busy cursing that it didn't notice your car! Guess you were lucky to have seen one so close at hand, even it was flying a**e over t*t at the time!

Sadly I picked a dead Buzzard off the road outside my place on Sunday.
It was one of last years young birds. There are three buzzard nests on my plot this year as opposed to two last year. Betwixt them 11 chicks.

Johnboy - that's sad. Any dead bird is a cause for regret but I always feel that the raptors are paticularly special because of their comparative rarity. Probably another impatient motorist speeding too quickly. How lucky you are to have three buzzard nests on your plot. Bet your binnoculars are in regular use.

Seems raptors still have a bad press with some.

On the One Show yesterday they had a piece that mentioned that an eagle had been found poisoned in Scotland.
