Pinching out peas and mange tout?

hi oldherbacious - I was reading a very old gardening/allotment book from the 30's that I got in a charity shop on older growing techniques - and that's what it told me to do - so although it seemed pretty harsh to go down a 14ft row and taking out all that growth i did it! it was only after reading in the monthly magazine that it says to pick out the growing tip only - had a few worries then, especailly when they took that extra couple of weeks to get going again - but as I say when they did get going, they easily over took the others. I think I'll have to check that book more closely and see whatelse they say.....

I have it in mind to pinch out my peas and sugar snaps having followed this thread last year, but am a bit nervous
. I have sown Hurstshaft peas, which are not through yet, but should I pinch these out at 4" or so? The sugar snaps are currently in trays in the unheated greenhouse and only just through. I think I ought to get them going in the raised bed fairly rapidly so that they too can be pinched out at 4-5" ? Are sugar snap frost proof? Am I also right that I shouldn't be pinching out the bean family? Thinking specifically of broad beans which I haven't grown before. I know that runner beans are not terribly responsive to being pinched out after leaving plants to grow on last year after the tops where broken off by an errant football
.
Sorry for all the questions, but with space at a premium I don't want to get this wrong
