There was a bit on Radio 4 this evening which said the RHS experimenthad worked. Female voices on the whole better than male. :(

I heard that article too. But the increase in growth was only 6cm during the month long trial? I think the trial should also have included a very angry man threatening to thrash the tomatoes if they didn't grow (Fawlty Towers/John Cleese style). Now I'm just showing my age...

I must have missed that particular reality show. Sounds dreadful. Do you know who "won?" I'd like to think it was the "carrots."

In 1973 Dorothy Retallack published a book: 'The sound of music and plants'.
I'm inclined to agree with the concept of talking to plants and also feel that, as with children, animals and even adults, a bit of encouragement and praise goes a long way too. :)

I have also come across experiments whereby sound and positive/negative words have been directed towards water and the various effects the different vibrations have. Quite astonishing. See the book by Dr. Masaru Emoto: 'The Water crystals of Masaru Emoto'
