early morning bin men

does anyone know what is the earliest time refuse collectors are allowed to call?we have a small business situated in our otherwise residential road their refuse is collected separately from our domestic waste and we've been woken three weeks running at 6:15 am.I can already hear all you early birds saying "best time of the day" but we're night owls.we've spoken to the local council who dealt with same problem some time ago but they're dragging their feet.We can't speak to the people involved as most of the residents have had issues with them.On a similar line our bin men are great

Dear Macmac, i don't know if there are any set times, but could you have a word with the lorry driver or his company, i'm sure they could alter their round a little if they knew it was causing a nuisance.

I'm sure there are no rules. Our recycling (weekly) and binmen (fortnightly) come any time from 5.30 to 6.30. As we're always up by then (yes, early birds) no problem, except to wonder what time the poor fellows have to be out of their beds!

As the problem is caused by people other than your local council, I suppose you could go throught the process of having the disturbance declared and dealt with as a Statutory Nuisance.

It might be included in local by-laws. Round here they aren't supposed to start before 7.30 am.

The Bin Men in this area call on me at about 7.30am but they have done quite a large area long before they reach here and I have no idea the time that they start.
I do know that the Royal Mail in this area do not start deliveries until 6.30am when in the past they used to start deliveries at 4.30am.
Most of the Bin Men and Postmen of the past had a second job and the earlier they started the earlier they could get to the other employment.
I do not think this happens to the same extent nowadays.

The Refuse and Recycling Department of your local council should be able to tell you whether there are any set time limits, whether the collection is done by their own services or contracted-out collectors.
I don't think there are any set times for Milk deliveries either. Neighbours living opposite us have their milk delivered by a dairyman - he arrives around 3.15 a.m, winter and summer. with his noisy diesel vehicle which arrives even before the dawn chorus starts up, invariarably waking us. Knowing how hard it is for small dairy companies to survive it seems churlish to complain, but the clinking glass milk bottles on the doorstep do seem to echo in the silence. Perhaps we should be just grateful that he's not either whilsting or playing loud pop music as he travels around!

As the previous member suggested, contact your local council who will hace a definitive answer for your area. My line manager complained to the council about her noisy bin men arriving early in the morning. She got an apology. I'm not sure if they now come later in the morning but I understand they are much quieter!
Im my area we have to have the bins out by 7.00 so this appears to be the earliest they can collect.

Hi Macmac,
I am an early riser and sat before the computer with a nice steaming mug of tea. Was then at work on the plot at 5am. I have a siesta in the afternoons and then go back to work later on.

Arrrggghhh, one of my pet hates is our local Dairy Crest Dairy, who have binned all the electric milk floats and replaced them with diesel Transit vans, the diesel isn't the problem for me its the ruddy intrusive "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" electonic whine to tell him when he gets out in the dark either that his lights are on, or, that he's left the key in the ignition when he opens and closes the cab door that gets me.

Now give these are custom built cab-chassis vehicles could they not have at least welded or glued the stupid door switch so it does not operate or removed the damm buzzer?

I complained to our milkman when he changed from electric to diesel, until I found out why. He'd been "chased" by yobs in a car on several occasions and he was just too vulnerable in an open float with a max speed of about 5 miles an hour. They'd driven rings around him and scared him half to death.

We also had our milk delivery time changed (I cancelled it as I was often already at work) to around 8am as people were following the milkman and stealing the milk off the doorsteps!

With regard to the bin collection, our bins at work are emptied at around 5am as there is an an access road between the backs of the businesses which is bunged up with parked cars and thus inaccessible to the very large bin lorry after around 6am.
