The 2 Gardeners Delight plants that I have growing in the greenhouse both have 11 or 12 flowers on the first 2 trusses and, as far as I can tell, the same on the third. Yellow Perfection, which is a medium-sized tomato, has similar numbers on the first 2 trusses. Of course, this could be a reflection of light levels as, if I recall correctly, the sunnier it is the smaller the truss and vice-versa. But it hasn't been particularly sunny here in Wales(!), unless truss formation happened to coincide with a sunny period.
Having said all that, I must confess that I normally grow GD as a bush, as the tomatoes are less than medium-size, though never as small as some of the real cherries.

Hi Colin,
What I am trying to convey to you is that there are two strains of Gardeners Delight on the market. In Moles Catalogue the stock they sell is called The Originators Strain. They have seen fit to to actually delineate between the two types.
The last ones I grew were from one of the free packets that came with the magazine. They turned out to be the cherry strain.
It is only when they are fried that they become acidic.
If you have some of the old strain growing I really would appreciate it if you could save me a few seeds this year.
My present plants are Ailsa Craig which is what I grew before GD came on the market. Like you I have grown GD since they first came into the catalogues back in the 60's I think.

Hi Johnboy,
I think the ones that I am growing are the freebies from the Magazine - I think they are from Fothergills, but I do keep the tomato seed for several years and I did buy some 2 or 3 years ago - can't remember. So the mystery remains. As far as Moles is concerned it could be a marketing ploy, or maybe not.
It would be interesting to hear from others regarding truss and fruit size.
