I have just had a little chuckle to myself, in the post this morning came an envelope from the Liberal Democrats, they are after donations to support them for the 4th of June, final East of England seat.

Not very good timing, i'm thinking. :)

Apologies for upsetting all the fine upstanding self employed people on the forum - wouldn't expect any other sort on here. It's always wrong to generalise and I shouldn't have done it. I still believe there are many that don't pay their share by using lax rules, by not being that discriminating between living costs and business costs and of course by cheating. Mind we poor PAYE victims do our bit by offering to let them do jobs VAT free for cash!
Saw a table the other day that showed every MP's expenses but can't find it again to quote and provide a link. Felt sorry for our local MP as she had only claimed £23,035 when she could have claimed £23,083 , perhaps I should send her the £48, then again perhaps not.

Hi Geoff

HERE'S the 2007-8 expenses table I posted a couple of days ago. You can reorder the columns by clicking the blue inverted triangles at the top of the columns to see who claimed most under each heading.

Thanks Alan, hadn't noticed you had posted the link as I haven't been on the forum for a day or two, I've altered the figures.

Hi Geoff,
I has just occurred to me that the expense accounts of MP's next year will make even more interesting reading. There will be a dramatic fall and we will only then be able to gauge who the 'goodies' are.

how is it that an mp can get paid a claim for interest on a mortgage that doesnt exist? dont they have to provide receipts or mortgage account statements? . either the system was designed by a complete idiot or the civil servants processing the claims are on a similar system... is it time someone took a look at civil servants expenses as well.

DW thinks that I've 'flipped'. I've just declared my cold frame as my main residence and ordered some horse manure and hobnobs. I'm hoping to sort out the leaking pipe down there and get rid of the moles and rabbits.

John

PS Anyone know where I can get an £8000 tv?

As I understand it, John, if you claim these items for your main residence (cold-frame) you will be breaking the rules :( Make sure you have the horse manure and biscuits delivered up at the now second home,

I have googled for an £8000 TV, but can't find one even at John Lewis - maximum just over £5000 - but it's very easy to change the 5 to an 8 on your receipt.

The only pleasure I'm getting out of this whole disgusting business is the fact that after year's of making one law for themselves and a different one for all of us, some of them must be so humiliated and embarrassed they they're frightened to put their faces out of their front doors. I love it now the public are starting to get their own back, especially the quip about one MP going into his local butchers to buy his meat and the butched quipped back in a full shop "Are you putting this on your expenses Mate?". I think if I'd been fiddling like that and been caught out, I would want the floor to open up and swallow me. I'm just waiting for the de-selection processes to start. About time Joe Public got the upper hand again. These guys should remember who elected them.

I begin to have a real fear of where we go from here. If the main parties are seen as discredited, who comes to the fore? The list of "parties" standing for Wales in the European elections next month doesn't inspire confidence, including as it does the evil and the mad . I'm sure others will have even wierder choices.

BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY
CHRISTIAN PARTY "PROCLAIMING CHRIST'S LORDSHIP"
CONSERVATIVE PARTY
JURY TEAM
LIBERAL DEMOCRATS
NO2EU: YES TO DEMOCRACY
THE GREEN PARTY
THE LABOUR PARTY
PLAID CYMRU - THE PARTY OF WALES
SOCIALIST LABOUR PARTY (LEADER ARTHUR SCARGILL)
UNITED KINGDOM INDEPENDENCE PARTY - SAY NO TO EUROPEAN UNION

Gosh - is Arthur Scargill still around? I must be older than I realised!
