Thought that would make you look :wink:

Sainsbury's have rebranded pollack as colin - to save customers embarassment (asking for cheaper fish or using a rude-sounding name :?: )

If our nearest Sainsbury's were not sixty miles away, we would be in there shouting "Have you no pollacks?" Pleasure denied.

Any other candidates for renaming to "save embarassment"?

Dear Alan, i wouldn't have any hesitations asking for Pollack.
I'm not one for swearing, but it does annoy me when the meaning of a word gets changed then one is made to feel guilty for using it.

Well i'm think it will be quite a gay day today. :)

Well, I would do them under the trade descriptions act if they are selling pollock as colin, as colin is the French for Hake which is nothing like pollock. Pollock is OK, but not nearly as solid and nice tasting as hake.

So what on earth are they thinking about - can't people choose something for what it tastes like whatever its name?

Bollocks - or should that be colins? to Sainsburys.

As a rule, I don't often shop in Sainsbury's but can see I'm going to have to watch out for people calling out my name.

And what's going to happen once people start asking for this down the local chippie?

I thought of you, Colin, when I heard the news.

Colin is indeed French for hake - but then pollack is lieu jaune (I think) - not very snappy.

The exceedingly lame excuse for renaming Pollock as Colin is because it is in the same family as Cod according to a Sainsbury's spokesperson! Dog Fish has been known as 'Rock Salmon' for as long as I can remember. The reason was because nobody would buy it as Dog Fish.
Fresh Pollock is as nice a fish as you could wish to eat.
There are a whole host of fish that the faddy British public will not eat.
I prefer Haddock to Cod and it is considerably cheaper which is a reversal of the norm. I heard that Haddock stock are in good fettle but people shy away from it. Why?

I was reared on fresh fish as I came from a fishing village, Pollack, Whiting,Barches (not sure of spelling) Jack Dory, Flounders flat fish ,Mackeral and Herrings and enjoyed all of them, we didn't have any Cod or Haddock.
