onions from seed

While we're on the topic of onions, can somebody please tell if if it's worth planting some of my onion sets in individual modules now, rather than waiting for another month or so until I can get my veggie patch dut and dried out. Will the roots mind being disturbed when I plant them out?

I always used to start mine like that to stop my cats and the birds digging them up. It may not be usual practice, but it worked fine for me.
