Hi all, new fella here, first posting !
In the Two Wests and Elliot catalogue there are some thingys called 'Growpots' which are used with growbags to give better root space for tomatoes etc. Has anyone used these and if so, are they of any benefit and can they be recommended ?

Cheers, Rhubarb Stick.

If these are bottomless pots which sit on top of the growbag, with an inch or so pushed into the growbag contents then, yes sort of.

I made my own from some pots which some shrubs I bought came in.
Marvellous things kitchen scissors.

These are quite an aid with watering if you leave a couple of inches at the top compost free. :D
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

Ello Rhubarbstick ( love the name) welcome from another newbie! Haven't tried them myseelf but I know quite a few folk who do and they swear by them. My toms are planted direct into greenhouse border with pop bottles to direct water to the roots. I have no problems with this method...yet :) Cheers, Elaine.
Happy with my lot

Yes, I've used growpots for years and they do the job well.

Home made solutions are fine, but the design of growpots makes it easier to apply feed to the base of the tomato and water to the lower roots more easily (tomatoes feed & take up water using different parts of the root system, so having a lemonade bottled buried in the soil doesn't always get the feed to the best place).

I expect growpots look quite expensive. Having said that, mine must be almost 10 years old now, so they do last.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I've been and gone and bought some now. They certainly seem robust so we'll see how i get on with them.
