Before Christmas we were 'marvelling' at the enormous number of molehills on the road-sides, fields and so on. This after a relative absence during the previous year. And driving up to Scotland via Bedford and Cambridge from here down in South-West Wales and back via the M6 the situation seemed to be the everywhere we looked.
Today, on a relatively short bus journey, there seemed to be even more molehills than sheep in some fields. And in one garden I gave up counting after 60. I know that 1 mole can create many molehills, but there certainly seems to be a lot of moles out there.
Mole explosion!

Ha ha, very funny! I was planting a leek, not stamping it into the ground 
I should have known there were moles there by the amount of water the leeks took when I was planting them. My moles must be damned fine swimmers

Yes, loads of moles active round our way too. They onbviously aren't affected by the cold as they don't seem to mind surfacing.
Are they digging to stay warm? Wonder if we could harness this untapped power......

The same thing has happened to me quite a few times in my back garden. There are so many tunnels under it now that I'm a bit worried that if someone walks (or jumps) a bit too heavily, they will trigger something along the lines of an earthquake, causing the whole garden to drop by at least 10 inches
