I'm struggling to believe this, but this morning there was a wasp sitting on the outside of my office window. My colleague and I thought it had maybe frozen to the glass, but it flew away! It was sub zero out there when this happened. Is this a new type of cold weather creature?
It's bad enough being plagued by them in the summer.

Are you implying I was p****d and seeing things or the wasp was p****d and therefore out when it should be hibernating?
I was in my office, with a cup of tea and witnesses!

For tea read gin.
For witnesses read other drunks.

I have never drunk gin in my life
and Sue (colleague) is teetotal
She actually said I should take a photo but I didn't have a camera with me and can't upload from my phone (too thick).
To be honest I felt sorry for the poor thing

Well if she has always been teetotal then don't.

Dear Chantal, i would think that the wasp probably got woke by the over zealous use of a radiator, somehow got outside and then was desperatly hoping to get back in, only to be stared at by two very attractive, open mouthed, sober women.
No wonder it flew orf.

I saw a solitary bee on Monday in the front garden, emerging from underneath the straw mulch.
Do they come out once in a while to drink or feed even when it is so cold
It was not moving very well... extremely slow.

Dear garden_serf, i feel in reality there are probably many isects that arise from their slumbers to early, only to succumb to the cold.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.
