We've got about six ladies hairdressers in our village. Heaven only knows how they all survive in this economic environment. After one extortionately expensive visit after losing my long-term hairdresser who worked out of her home, I decided 'Never Again', especially as they insisted on washing my hair again after I'd already washed it that morning. "Why can't you just wet-spray it?" I asked. "Oh no Madam, we can't give such a professional cut that way" What utter nonsense!
I now go to the Unisex barber where one of the young ladies gives me a very acceptable trim and reshape for £10. And a three-monthly home-applied dose of "Because You're Worth It" colourant at around a fiver completes the process. My OH reckons I'm pretty low maintenance compared with some of the other females he knows. A lipstick lasts me about five years!

I am bald, grey, and going wrinkly now too!!
One does see a lot of ladies leaving the hairdressers with the hair of a seventeen year old and the face of a sixty year old, I ask only one question?
Why?
............who are they kidding, grow old with grace, silver is sexy!!

If I am not on the plot, I am not happy.........
I don't do lipstick and I stopped colouring my hair in 2004. At first, no-one noticed but in the last 12 months I've got some serious grey high/low lights!!! I like the coarser texture and my hair is better behaved, but I really look my age, or maybe more than my yeasrs. OH says I make him look old - how can that be when he is the image of Father Christmas?
I have got a really good hairdresser (in the nearest village which is just over 3 miles away) who cuts me back to size every 5 or 6 weeks for £9.00.

we were on a caravan site a couple of years ago where we had a good view of everyone trooping up to the shower block whilst we were sat having breakfast, it was quite an eye opener to see just how big a bag of cans and bottles some women carried to the showers every morning. makes you wonder just how big is the market for unnecessary grooming products

Richard - you should see some of the girls who use our local gym. They arrive every morning with the equivalent of a large suitcase - absolutely full of cosmetics, deodorants, moisturing creams, hair sprays, etc, etc. It takes them as long to shower, dress and get ready afterwards as it does to do their workout!
In the days when I used the gym (which went bust leaving me and many others out of pocket; now I run around the fields with the dog...)it made me smile to see the young ladies in immaculate make-up and the latest sportswear never even break into a sweat. I would look dreadful by the end of a session, dishevelled and red-faced and very much in need of a shower!
