Before I start I do like dogs, and had dogs when growing up. BUT I HATE people who have dogs that bark constantly and spoil the peace and quiet. We were walking in the Lakes on Friday with a view to walk from Hawkshead to Tarn Hows and back again. We got to the Tarn and the view was lovely. But there was a couple with three dogs and she was throwing a ball into the Tarn for one of the dogs and the other two were barking constantly a really high pitched bark. We wanted to sit and eat our sandwiches and look at the lovely view but were unable to because of the noise.
I wish people with noisy dogs would consider others.

Hi Catherine
It is no different from someone with a loud stereo on a beach or people that argue and fight in public if you ask me, a controllable noise is a controllable noise, Full Stop!!

I quite agree Compo. We were on a beach in Kefalonia a couple of years ago and an Italian family pitched up and settled themselves at the other end of the beach. We and they were the only people on the beach. Then he proceeds to call someone on his mobile and WALKED DOWN THE BEACH AWAY FROM THEM TO CHAT, AND STOOD IN FRONT OF US TAKING VERY LOUDLY. We huffed and puffed and complained quietly about him then when we had had enough we both yelled SHUT UP FOR GODS SAKE. He stopped, stared and walked away. It was so funny after, but not at the time.

Dear Catherine, apart from the dogs, did you have a good time.
You could have always broke into song, that surely would have drove the dogs and owners scampering for cover.

Dear OH We had a wonderful time and the Lake District is beautiful at this time of year with the tree colour and not many people.
Lots of walking and mountain biking and rather a lot of vino too
It would have also sent my OH for cover as well. Mmmm maybe you know me.

I love to listen to the sounds of nature when I go for walks. Last week my 5 mile walk was accompanied by a couple with a screaming baby in a papoose. I tried to walk faster to leave them behind but they kept catching me up. Then I lagged behind but caught them up when they were changing its nappy in the middle of the path. Apparently the poor child had a bad cold and was teething, so why on earth didn't they stay at home?
Then when we got back to civilisation they were planning to go to the pub for lunch with the baby still screaming. I hope they changed their minds as it would have been terribly anti-social, and the poor kid was really distressed.
I just don't like noise, whether it is dogs yapping, music or rowdy people.

Hi Plumpudding I quite agree with you. Thats why I would never join a rambling club because for the majority of the time all they do is walk along the path neither looking to right or left and chat, some at the tops of their voices, the whole time, not even looking at the scenery never mind the wild life. I will probably be shouted down about this one but I too like to walk in the countryside and see things and we have on many occasions had to stand aside while 20 or more people come striding past making a racket. Rant over.

Dear Catherine, you really are a so much better person than myself, if i met twenty ramblers on a path, they would be the ones standing aside while i passed, and i probably would be whistling a hymn.
Please don't tell me hymn whistling annoys you.

Dear OH. I must be coming across very bad tempered today.
I really am a normally good tempered person - honestly just had two bad days, hopefully the week will start getting better. I will have to try your idea. I do like hymns, especially at Christmas.
