Planting Japanese knotweed might have been a good alternative!
They should have expected that the allotmenteers would have been as upset at losing their allotments (who can afford to pay £1000 for them?) as the golfers would have been at losing their golf course.

Looks like he acted before he thought. I know I have been guilty of this as well in the past. :( But not these day, it takes me forever to make a decision, maybe something to do with my age :!:  But he has now lost his plot which will affect him alot and in a way you have to feel sorry for him. I know what he has done is wrong but there for the grace of god go some of us. I would hate to lose my plot but if they put the price up to £1,000 i would have to give it up.

community sevice and a thousand pound fine for killing a bit of grass, perhaps he should have taken up burglary to pay the increased fees ...... perhaps the judge was a golfer

"I just find it incredible that someone could damage prepared surfaces like this when they are a gardener themselves," he said. "It is just incredible."

Why?? Gardening has nothing whatever to do with golf and bears no relation to it all except that greenkeepers look after plants (that you can't eat). Allotments are 50 million times more useful and attractive than golf courses (and I'm not exaggerating...)

Somewhat OTT I must admit - but golf?
As I understand it, it gives a LOT of pleasure to very FEW people On a HUGE acreage of ground!
I'm with allotments on this one.

He should have been more imaginative and turned the sand traps into bear pits - who'd have missed a few golfers?

As a person who goads golfers on a fairly regular basis, I would have done something a little more subtle than weedkiller.

Like releasing rabbits or moles onto the course, or lots and lots of bindweed roots all over the place.

At least with the rabbits you can get yer gun out and have a bash

Or gatecrash the next golf club dinner and stage a protest. Then you could nick the buffet and get a free feed into the bargain
Lots of love

Lizzie
