What can be planted now?

I wonder if anyone can tell me what i can plant now to grow over the winter?

i dont have a greenhouse but do tend to start plants off on the windowsill of our kitchen to plant out.

Does anyone know what can be started from seed in September for a winter veg garden?

Try some winter hardy lettuces, spinach and oriental greens such as mizuna and mibuna.

Onion sets can go in now to give you a crop from next May. Senshyu or Radar are good ones and there is a red one Electric.
Garlic can be planted too.

Obviously winter brassicas if you can find any plants anywhere

If you want a crop, try radish Black Spanish Round or some such and winter lettuces, like Claytonia, Winter Crop, etc.

if you don't necessarily want a crop, try green manures. Field beans, vetch, hungarian grazing rye and Phacelia tanacetifolia are good.

Can some turnips be planted now for harvest in Oct/Nov? Or are turnips at risk from frost?

Hi Kranser,
The latest you are recommended to sow Turnips is August but I don't see any reason not to try now.
If you never try you never find out do you.
If we have a mild winter then I see no reason why you shouldn't finish up with a crop. If they fail to bulb-up the foliage makes quite good eating so have a crack and astound us all!
