One site says to start the root-stock seedlings a few days before the scion (plant to be grafted on) so they have the same diameter when you graft them.

It says to cut the rootstock well above soil level so the soil doesn't contaminate the graft. Cut both at same angle 45 to 60 degrees, the scion just below the leaves and join with a graft clip (I'm afraid I don't know where you can get these). Make sure the cut areas are in total contact with each other.

Then leave in a warm humid atmosphere until the graft has taken.

I've never tried it, and it seems to be mainly for large producers where disease is more likely to occur.

Does anyone know where grafting clips and other grafting aids can be obtained? I could do with some grafting tape for doing fruit trees, but haven't found anyone who supplies in small quantities.

Yes Shallotman, I've tried raffia, but thought they had all sorts of new super advanced things which would make it easier. I just can't find a supplier for ordinary garden use.

I keep having an attempt at grafting fruit trees, but have only had limited success. The best one on an apple that had taken really well, got broken off when a starling decided to perch on it.

I've got it in mind to go on one of the grafting courses next year. It is OK following instructions from a book, but much better to see it actually being done by an expert isn't it.

Hi to All

Thank you all for your help,

Shallot Man thanks for the video of the three handed gardener   Now I am beginning to understand how to graft toms after watching it :)

Geoff thank you for finding the Grafting tape I think it will be better than raffia :)

Plumpudding thank you for the advise now to try and find some grafting clips, but after watching the three handed gardener I might be using thin pipe from an aquarium shop :)

Best Wishes & Kind Regards

Sounds like a '70s aftershave.

Does it come with a chest-wig?
