Thanks for the comments. See point 5 in the growing suggestions. I believe pineapples may grow best in a mixture of sand and compost - suggest 50:50.

I've only grown 3 plants to this size and only 2 produced fruit. Some of the initial batch didn't make it to the later stage.

For those interested, a quick Google will show others in the UK who have also done this.

It's been a bit of a wait but our first pineapple is finally ready to harvest:

Wowee ! Congratulations. Quite an achievement. Hope you opened a bottle of something special to celebrate and savoured every mouthful.
Nowhere near as spectacular, but I always feel like this when I pick the first ripe tomato every year. Now you've proved it can be done, perhaps some more of us will be tempted, although I don't have a conservatory. Perhaps an indoor window sill would keep it happy through the winter.
