With this following on many incidents of contaminated manure, it's really dispiriting that another batch of people have been affected by contamination when trying to grow their own. Not being able to eat your own eggs must be really infuriating and one can only wonder how the birds themselves have been affected. I don't know how long your allotments have been in use but it seems to me that the Council must have been seriously negligent years ago in not having the area tested for pollution or contamination before releasing it to the public for the growing of food. It must be worrying that some of you must have been growing food on this land for years and eating it without having known about the risk, unless the contamination has been imported in more recently in manure, etc.

the site from what i can gather has been there since at least the war with an additional few plots added on to accomodate some refugees from a nearby site which was built on. Its these plots which the council has got the jitters about. my plot is one of these i think. i need to do some digging with the land registry and local archives to find out for sure. the most worrying thing is the possibility of personal poisoning but its a waiting game at the moment to find out the results and yes its annoying and expensive to be throwing 12 eggs a day away.regardless of the outcome i will be out of pocket.watch this space.
