We have just returned from a week in Kefalonia Greece for my Oh's 50th birthday. We had a great time but now know that we dont like the beach and the heat. We have never been in June, always September 9 times over 20 years. This time it was too too hot. 32 to 38 degrees, could not sleep at night and wearing number 50 sun block got burnt sitting under an umbrella on the beach.

Both got bites from the mozzies.

But could not believe that people still put towels on sun beds at 7.30 am to save them for the day and these were british people. We also got stung by a couple we met when we were having a meal and got chatting, they suggested that we joined them at their table ( they were staying at the same hotel as us in the next room) There wasnt any room at their table as they were in the passage to the kitchen so they joined us. They suggested that we got a bottle of wine, which we did, (it went on our bill) and we walked back to the hotel and he rushed to the bar and ordered his and his partners drink, we got our drinks, and then my OH offered to buy them their next drink!!! they accepted it and then, guess what, they went to bed. The following day they treated us like they did not know us and for the rest of the week avoided us like the plague. They got really friendly with another couple and we saw them getting drinks off them so we learnt a big lesson. Silly really.
Spent most of the day today sorting the plot out as it was very weedy. It was totally clear of weeds when we went away on Sunday.
Tonight we have eaten potatoes, broad beans and cabbage from our plot. This is why we do it. Brilliant.
Going to bed now as our body clock says it is 11.10pm Kefalonia is 2 hours ahead of us. God know what we would do if we went to America or Hong Kong. But then we wouldn't.
