No, I haven't got the wrong forum. There are none of these ravaging my garden just yet :wink:

I was wondering about the wisdom and ethics of re-introducing British native species of animal which have been absent for centuries.

Beavers have already been brought back, including in Lancashire at Martin Mere. There's also an active campaign to bring wolves back to Scotland. Why not the Brown Bear and the Elk?

What are your views?

once you start where do you stop? will we have wooly mammmoths trampling over everything next. man has a fine record of intoducing animals and then finding unforseen consequences on other parts of the ecosystem. what possible benefit is there from reintroducing wolves? they have to eat, so they are bound to wipe out something else.

Dragons...
They are right handy things to have about..a really green way to sort weeds on gravel paths without using loads of calor gas..now we can't use Gramoxone and Simazine... :wink:

..and perhaps Johnboy could employ one to give his carrot land a quick scorch... :?: as long as he keeps them away from his tunnels.. :shock:

Being that I live within two miles of the Welsh border it may be possible to lure one over.
Wonder what Dragon meat tastes like?
Seriously though I do not know who passed the tip on about using a burner on your prepared carrot bed prior to seeding but I actually vote this as the best tip ever posted on this forum. By going over the surface you actually kill off 99% of the annual and most perennial weed seeds and without these emerging you carrots can be sown in what will be a virtually weedless environment. Of course if you sow Parsnips direct the method is good for them as well.
