Had a one-minute shower today, BUT the forecast is for heavy rain tomorrow. Good luck to everybody who needs it! Our transplanted greens have survived with copious watering but could do with a good soak and damp air all round.
I tried to water the potatoes with a watering can but one large can just soaked into about a foot of row so I realised it just isn't realistic to water potatoes with a can. So we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will get a lovely long rainy spell at last.
Rained last night.

It's been bright and sunny all day here, and now the wind is really getting up, so it'll dry it up even more.
Cheers PJ.

Hi PJ 4 days and counting. Still no rain. I watered the garden again tonight. My beans are just looking rubbish and I have had caterpillars on my cabbages even though we have put mesh over the cabbages. We've got plain green caterpillars and the cabbage white caterpillars. Dont know how they got in there.
How's the beach!!
The cloud is passing over but nothing has dropped on us yet maybe it might
come in the night. We shall see.

Hi Catherine,
The beach was lovely today. Almost deserted
Some of my beans are not looking too good, but some are racing away
You're not having much luck are you. Caterpillars as well now. The plain green ones are the small white butterfly and they like to get right into the heart of the cabbage just to cheer you up a bit more.

Hi Alan,
I bet you're standing out in it
Let's hope it lasts for a while so as to do a bit of good.
Another bright and sunny morning here, and still a bit breezy.

Hi PJ
Not standing out in it at this moment on account of rain-keyboard incompatibility
But I did enjoy going out a while ago to let out and feed the young chicks.
Especially pleased that the strong wind overnight had not damaged my newly-planted climbing borlotti, and a (very thirsty) courgette had opened a celebratory flower.
Sunshine forecast for tomorrow, Friday & Saturday, then (hopefully) more rain Sunday

Dear Catherine, the variety of Broad Bean is Aquadule Claudia.
I plant some in the Autumn and some more very early in the Spring.

Nice steady rain here too, perhaps I'll see the green green grass of home again in a day or two. As Alan says the honeymoon won't last long especially as all the "I'll do it when it rains" come home to roost. Off to the garage for "Henry" to tackle the first, cleaning out the flues to see if that gets the Aga back to full temperature.

It's been raining off and on all day and it's pouring at the moment so it should even get down to the potato roots!
By the way, I tried borlotti beans last year and only got a minimal yield as well as losing all the ones near the ground to the pheasants, but I am giving it another go this year, on a smaller scale (variety Lingua di Fuoco - Fire Tongue) but I shall keep them on the plants much longer and then use them as dried beans, if it works!

Hi Monika They are the beans that we are growing as well. Thankfully we have been having steady rain almost all day so I think it might have wet the spuds as well. I was in Whalley today and it looked very black over your way.
The rain was very heavy about 6.30 tonight but it is lighter now. Thanks Alan I will check that link.
