Is it possible to grow a few raspberry canes against a north facing fence? Would they ripen?

We've just replaced a broken fence panel which I'd deliberately left unplanted and now want to put something (preferably edible) to grow against it.
We have two blackberry plants on adjacent panels which do ripen successfully.

I grow rasps under a 10metre high hawthorn - west facing and get excellent crops.
As long as the soil is moist and does not dry out, it should work.

Thanks. I was planning to plant them this week-end (know it's a little late in the season) but having enquired at three garden centres around here, I seem to have missed the boat as they're all now out of stock. Looks like I'll have to wait until the autumn to get some.
