edible weeds

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

I am looking for a good book to identify edible common garden weeds. As a bit of a novice one with colour photos to make identification easier would be handy. One that suggests uses or recipes too would be ideal.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm a gardener with limited time and space and it seems to me that it would be easier to use what the garden gives freely than fight against it too much! :)

Don't know about a book on weeds, but Wild Food by Roger Phillips is a good book. He does include some edible weeds. ISBN 0-330-28069-4.
Includes some recipes as well.

...or what's that one by Richard Mabey. That's a good one even if I can't remember the title!

Richard Mabey's Food for Free was first published way back in 1972, but has been reprinted ever since. My original copy fell apart with use.
Roger Phillips' Wild Food is excellent for identification, as are all his books.

Hi Woozle,
Although this book will not give you details of what is edible it is a pocket edition which is easy to carry wherever you go. I refer to the Mitchel Beazley pocket guide to Wild Flowers.
ISBN 0 855332689.
Of course wild flowers to gardeners are weeds 'cos sadly they are growing in the wrong place.
This really is a good book for identification though.
JB.
