I'm watching the best of Riverdance on Sky and it never ceases to take my breath away. How do they dance like that? Even long ago when I was fit, and I was REALLY fit, I could never have done that. What really baffles me is how they can dance without using their arms for balance

I've seen Riverdance/Lord of the Dance on TV a zillion times, I've seen Lord of the Dance live and it still brings a lump to my throat, especially when there's rows of dancers all in perfect time. Am I just sad or does it get other people like that?

I know several of the dancers in Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. My daughter used to dance with them. She got offered a scholarship to dance school but didn't take it. I've watched them from when they were little.

The balance comes from the feet, especially the big toes. You also need perfect posture otherwise you end up arse over end.

I love Riverdance and can still remember when I first saw it. It got me back into the Irish music that's i'd stopped listening to.

It is amazing to watch them and their timing is fabulous. They rehurse for about 10-12 hours per day 7 days a week before the tour starts and they do that for about 6 months. The theory being that they should be able to so the moves blindfolded and without music to guide them, just a metronome. It's one of the toughest dances a person can do.

I'm certainly in awe of them cos I can't even touch my toes, let alone fling my legs about
Lots of love

I can't fling my legs about either, I have trouble walking quite often. I can still touch my toes though

Funny that you should be talking about this today as in this mornings Irish Examiner it was disclosed that a book has been discovered in the archieves of a museum in Dublin. It will, they say, revolutionise Irish Dance. It is entitled "Irish Dance, vol 2, What to do with your hands".
Seriously though I love Riverdance.

Regards,Gerry.

Aw Gerry!
I was just about to post that bit of news.
In mine it was a picture where somebody was blowing dust off an old book,
"Irish Dancing 2 - Use of the Arms."

Love to watch it though. There was a display in the market place here on St P`s day. Wonderful!
