Bored, bored, bored ...

At work and bored senseless today.

For reasons best known itself the hard drive on our server decided to self destruct yesterday. We've spent all day with no access to the internet, no emails and no networked files. We've just had a new hard drive installed and everything is being restored from the backups but I'm going insane.

I've cleaned out my desk, my filing cabinets, my file trays, done all the filing, tidied round, we've had a staff meeting, been out for lunch and now I've run out of stuff to do. I even have writer's cramp from using a pen and paper; a somewhat alien concept for more than a couple of minutes.

I would much rather be busy than sit here like a lemon trying to think of things to do (yawn...).

The daft thing is that all I can do is access the web, I have all the time I want to look up anything I want and I can't THINK of anything to look up!

Thanks Alan, that kept me occupied for a while. I scored 20 on the sticks, kicked the ass of Osama Bin Laden, thrashed Mr Rude at battleships and improved my mental maths. I can already speak with a Welsh accent, sorry.

I've just received a text from our IT guys to say most things will be sorted by the morning; I do hope so, or I may be forced to visit those websites again.

Now this is getting Scary Chanters.....we've had no e-mails or networked files all day today either. The whole of the Council has been silent - so to speak.

I've done more joined up writing than is good for me and been early to every meeeting. Without my Blackberry working, I've felt as though I've been cut off from the world.

I know what you mean - I'm sitting here at 1.15am (is it really that late) waiting for a load of washing to go round a second time because I forgot to put any soap in the first time. How sad is that? You think your life's dull?

I'v just had a look at my work computer and although I now have emails, there are none since 17 February! Arrrrghhh I have dealt with most of them but there was a dozen or so that are ongoing and they've all gone!! The last backup ran on Saturday night, so they SHOULD be there

I've just read the wheat thread Tigger, now I know why you're feeling spooked Are we twins?

Gulia - I wouldn't have bothered about waiting up to add the soap. I've occasionally forgotten to add this to the washing machine before and the washing came out looking pretty clean without it. I now use about half the amount of washing product I used to and don't notice any difference. Wonder how much we're being conned by the manufacturers about required usage.

I buy those washing tablets and only ever use one instead of two.

I was told a long time ago by a guy who fixed them, that if you just run your machine on empty with no soap and you get soap suds, then you are using far too much (as most people do). I usually only use the economy programme in any case, how much soap can you use in 20 minutes

I'm bored rigid again today. Emails now working but lost all of last weeks mail as that's when the hard drive started corrupting apparently. My networked files are all over the place so I'm now waiting until tomorrow morning to have them restored from a different off site backup which is OK. In the meantime I'll be back on Alan's boredom sites playing battleships I fear... I'd rather be gardening

I bought some ball things from Aldi smaller version of the ones for the tumble dryer so you can use half as much soap, so now on half a tablet and it works tried it on 4 pairs of jeans with mud on the bottom they cost £5-99 but should save money and better for the septic tank too

I'm bored too. Woke up this morning to find that the boiler has had a spectacular leak overnight. Everything in the airing cupbored is soaking wet. Called the little man and he should be here "sometime today"

Have tidied out the airing cupboard and have washed what needed to be washed. Now i'm stuck with a load of wet washing while I wait for the little man to turn up. Once he's fixed it, I can get to the launderette to use the big dryers there. Have to take 5 handmade patchwork bedquilts for washing as they're all saturated too.

It's blowing a gale here and the barometer went down to it's lowest point for the last few days.

Ohhhhhhhh, where is that little man.......it's freezing and I can't put the central heating on. I've laid a bet with Big Andrew that the bloke won't have the part needed and "will be back in a few days"
