Cauliflower

We do buy the odd veg in the winter if we see a bargain and the last couple of weeks we have bought two huge caulis from Lidl for 48p each. They have each done the two of us for a cauliflower cheese then as a veg so I reckon 12p a helping isn't bad. They were labelled English Class 1; anybody any idea where they would be coming from and what variety they are likely to be?

There's a fair chance it was grown in Lincolnshire,Boston way on.The land around the wash is used extensively for growing Vegetables, Cauliflowers included.

The first early caulis used to come from Cornwall.
Maybe things have changed now.

I grow Purple Cape. Sown in June and planted out July/Aug. [It's a heading broccoli rather than cauliflower, but I thought all cauliflowers were heading broccoli.] This weekend I saw the first heads. Very small, so I left them hoping they'll enlarge. But they may not, as I put them into a raised bed and I suspect that I didn't get them in deep enough. Brassicas need a really firm base.
